Stop Jaw Pain & Even Your Bite with TMJ Treatment
TMJ disorder, also referred to as TMJD, is a common condition that affects the smooth functioning of the two temporomandibular joints that connect your lower jaw to your skull. When these are no longer able to smoothly glide to allow you to open and close your mouth with ease, it can result in chronic pain and difficulty eating and speaking, having a noticeable impact on your quality of life. At Salmon Brook Dental Associates, we offer equilibration, or occlusal adjustments, to help even out your bite and reduce strain on your jaw joints. How We Treat TMJ Disorder
Whether due to misshapen teeth or improperly fitted restorations, the bite can become misaligned and lead to a variety of TMJ symptoms. Our team can gently file them to adjust the shape of these teeth to help the entire arch close evenly. This process is referred to as equilibration, or occlusal adjustment. In some cases, we may also recommend a customized nightguard to help protect teeth from grinding as a result of TMJD.
