Are you unhappy with your smile because of crooked and misaligned teeth? Your situation isn’t hopeless! Invisalign has become one of the go-to treatments for patients who desire a straighter and healthier smile. That said, you might have questions about the treatment process that need to be answered before you feel like committing to it. Keep reading to learn the answers to some of the most frequently asked Invisalign questions.

Is Invisalign Treatment Painful?

This is one of the first questions that comes to mind for many patients concerning any dental procedure, but you should be happy to hear that Invisalign treatment, while initially uncomfortable, is ultimately not very painful once you adjust to wearing your aligners. During the first few days after receiving your aligners, your teeth are going to feel sore and sensitive. But this is a normal part of the process; once you make it past that one-week hump, things become noticeably better!

How Noticeable Is Invisalign?

Unlike traditional braces, which are easily noticeable thanks to the unnatural appearance of the metal brackets and wires, Invisalign is hardly noticeable at all when the aligners are being worn! If people look closely, they might be able to see some small projections (buttons) on your teeth, but otherwise the trays are incredibly discreet!

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

Invisalign treatment takes roughly 12 months on average. Compared to traditional orthodontics, which can take 18 months or more to complete, this is incredibly speedy! That said, the treatment process can be delayed if you aren’t diligent about wearing your aligners for the mandatory 22 hours every day. You must also be sure to swap to your new sets of trays when it’s the proper time. Your dentist will be able to provide you with detailed instructions about when and how to do this.

Can Invisalign Aligners Become Stained?

Yes, they can! Your aligners can take on an unattractive yellow or brown tint if you’re not good about keeping them and your teeth clean. That said, when this happens you can rinse your aligners in lukewarm (not hot) water and then soak them in an appropriate cleaning solution. To prevent your aligners from becoming stained, try to avoid foods and beverages that contain staining agents, and if you’re a smoker, drop the habit immediately.

It’s important to be as informed as possible about your Invisalign treatment in order to ensure its success. That said, don’t hesitate to reach out to your dentist or orthodontist if you have any specific questions about your aligners.
